Nanjing University Hosted Its Second “Star of Entrepreneurship and Innovation”

On May 18, Nanjing University hosted its second “Star of Entrepreneurship and Innovation” award ceremony at Xianlin Campus. Zhou Tianshi, member of the Standing Committee of Sheyang County and party secretary of the economic development zone of Sheyang County, Yancheng city, and Xue Hailin, the vice president of Nanjing University, as well as other personnel from relevant departments attended the ceremony. The ceremony was hosted by Gao Xinfang, the director of Office of Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Achievement Conversion.
Gao Xinfang announced the decision to commend stars of innovation and entrepreneurship and released the name list of 15 prize winners. Wang Hongtao, Director of Postgraduate Department, Party Committee of Nanjing University, and Wang Hui, Deputy Director of economic development zone of Sheyang County presented the awards to the student prize winners. Zhang Xiaodong, Director of the development committee at Nanjing University and Secretary General of education development foundation, and Zhang Xiangrong, Deputy Director of the economic development zone of Sheyang County presented the award to alumni prize winners, while Xue Hailin and Zhou Tianshi presented the award to teacher prize winners.
Gao Xinfang also released the popularity award. The selection on Wechat lasted for five days and attracted 15477 people to vote. Zhou Yang, Qimei Ouzhu and Ge Yun respectively won the popularity award in student group, alumni group and teacher group. Suo Wenbin, Youth League secretary of Nanjing University, Liu Liyang, Deputy Secretary General of Alumni Association, and Zhou Dongshan, Professor of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering and Director of Sheyang High-tech Research Institute, Nanjing University, presented trophies to the prize winners.
Zhou Yang, Liu Jingkang and Wang Ziqiang, delivered speeches on behalf of prize winners of students, alumni and teachers. They expressed the gratitude towards the university’s cultivation and assistance in their exploration of innovation and entrepreneurship.
Zhou Tianshi suggested that the cooperation between Sheyang and Nanjing University has a long history. In 2017, Sheyang County and Nanjing University jointly established the Sheyang Research Institute. Professor Zhu Jia and Professor Zhou Dongshan both brought their teams to the institute. The institute has become an important incubator to boost scientific achievement conversion, innovation and entrepreneurship. Mr. Zhou expressed that both parties could deepen their cooperation in innovation, science, talent and platform building.
Xue Hailin conveyed sincere congratulations to teachers, students and alumni that have been awarded star of innovation and entrepreneurship. He thanked them for their contributions to the University’s innovation and entrepreneurship. Mr. Xue suggested that Nanjing University aims to become double first-tier university, and has made fruitful achievements in terms of innovation, entrepreneurship, talent cultivation, service to local level and scientific achievement conversion. Nanjing University cannot obtain achievements without the efforts of alumni, teachers and students, as well as the support from local governments. Through establishing Sheyang research institute, Nanjing University hopes to utilize the global alumni resources and social resources, attracting talents, projects and capital to boost the development of Sheyang. Meanwhile, talent in scientific innovation is the driving force for development. We hope more teachers, students and alumni will join the innovation and entrepreneurship team and contribute to the development of Jiangsu and the country.
It is known that Sheyang economic development zone will develop Sheyang High-Tech Research Institute jointly with Nanjing University. It will also donate 3 million RMB and establish an innovation & entrepreneurship fund to support Nanjing University’s innovation, entrepreneurship, and achievement conversion. Part of the fund will be awarded to innovation and entrepreneurship talents, who have demonstrated exceptional and outstanding performance in Nanjing University’s innovation and entrepreneurship development, and its building of model base for innovation and entrepreneurship.
